Mark 14:32-42
In Mark 14:32–42 we enter one of the most sobering moments in the life of Jesus — the Garden of Gethsemane.
The table is behind Him.
The betrayal is already in motion.
The cross is only hours away.
Before the soldiers arrive and before the nails are driven, Jesus goes to the garden to pray.
In this passage we see the true weight of what Jesus is about to carry. Mark describes Him as greatly distressed, troubled, and sorrowful to the point of death. Jesus is not facing merely physical suffering — He is preparing to drink the cup of God’s wrath for the sins of the world.
Yet in the middle of that weight, Jesus prays:
“Abba, Father… all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
Gethsemane shows us something powerful about our Savior.
This is not weakness. This is perfect obedience under unimaginable weight.
In this sermon we explore:
• The weight Jesus carried as He prepared for the cross
• The prayer of the Son and His surrender to the Father’s will
• The weakness of the disciples who could not stay awake
• The moment Jesus resolves to walk toward the cross
Where we fail, Jesus succeeds.
Where we sleep, Jesus obeys.
And because He said “yes” in the garden, our salvation is secure.
Join us as we walk through this powerful passage together.
